The
average high temperature ranges between 28C (82F) in December
to 35C (94F) in May which is considered as the hottest month
by the Meridianos. The average lows range from 17C (62F)
in January to 23C (73F) in July. November to April are considered
the dry months with very little precipitation. The rainy
season encompasses the months of June/July to August/September.
We have found that there are days where it rains frequently
but that generally the days start off with sunshine, get
cloudy around noon, rain at 3 o'clock and the clouds clear
up 5 o'clock. There are many days where the daily rains
don't materialize. Some of the daily rains can be impressive
deluges but the gravelly soil absorbs the water quite quickly
and doesn't impair travel or movement.
The
tropical weather provides the blessings of magnificent varieties
of fruit; exotic and familiar. In Ka'an has 30 some
odd varieties of fruit ranging from oranges, limes, bananas
to carambola, mangoes, caimito, pitaya, nopales and many
others. The citrus trees will bear fruit all year round
provided they receive water frequently. The others bear
fruit at different times of the year but principally in
the summer months. For the adventurous consumer this is
a marvelous time to visit the tropics.
Tropical flowers are gorgeous; birds of paradise,
bugambilias, tulipanes, jasmine de la noche and a host of
others decorate the grounds at In Ka'an.
Clothing
standards are very casual. Wash and wear cotton shirts,
shorts and t-shirts are good day-time wear. The local Meridiano
is seldom seen in shorts and the "formal" wear
includes the marvelous guayabera which is a short sleeve
shirt worn by the local business man. Linen and cotton clothing
is available in many of the local shops. Wear long pants
and sweaters as the evenings in the winter can be surprisingly
cool. Bring sandals and comfortable walking shoes.
